Learning About Farming: Innovation and Social Networks in a Resettled Community in Brazil

We study the role of social learning in diffusion cash crops a resettled village economy northeastern Brazil. combine detailed geo-coded data on farming plots with dyadic ties among settlers, and we leverage natural exogenous variation network formation induced by land occupation movement agrarian reform. By using longitudinal decisions over 15 years find consistent evidence significant peer effects decision to farm new fruits (pineapple passion fruit). Our results suggest that is heterogeneous along observed plot crop characteristics, i.e. farmers growing water-sensitive are more likely respond actions peers similar water access conditions.
